Montana Governor and First Lady's Math and Science Initiative

Nancy Schweitzer
Nancy Schweitzer grew up in Billings, Montana, the fourth daughter of Bill and Betty Lou Hupp. Nancy graduated with honors from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany. She met her husband Governor Brian Schweitzer at MSU where he received a Master of Science degree in Soil Science.
After graduation, the Governor and First Lady began a career of irrigation development that took them to Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Brian and Nancy returned to Montana in 1986 to raise a family and to build a ranching and irrigation business in Montana. They have three children: Benjamin, Mikhail, and Katrina, and two border collies named Pica and Jag.
Nancy has volunteered in the children’s schools, and the church youth classes for many years. The Governor and First Lady share an interest in science. Together, they launched the Governor and First Lady’s Math and Science Initiative. She is looking forward to sparking an interest in science by visiting students in classrooms, helping youth to explore Montana’s many beautiful places and promoting wellness.
